Miss UF

The annual Miss UF scholarship pageant will be held on February 27, 2012 at the Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Winners will advance to the Miss Florida pageant in July with a chance to compete for the Miss America crown the following January. As an official Miss America Organization affiliate, the contest will be contest will be composed of a private interview (25%), on-stage question (5%), talent competition (35%), an evening wear portion (20%), and a lifestyle & fitness swimsuit portion (15%).

The Miss America Organization is the largest scholarship provider for young women in the world. For 2012, Miss UF will endeavor to draw from a more diverse contestant pool and develop stronger ties with the student body. The pageant will be partnering with Dance Marathon @ UF and the Children’s Miracle Network. Contestants frequently compete at the state and national level, stress the leadership development of adolescent women and build more positive environments for women to grow professionally.

Legal Professions Day

Legal Professions Day is a yearly event at the Frederic G. Levin College of Law that connects interested students with the law school. It provides the networking foundation that will aid them greatly in the admissions process. Legal Professions Day provides interactive opportunities and information with notable speakers including deans, attorneys, law school professors, and law school admissions counselors. Information about legal internships, pre-legal organizations and LSAT preparation courses will be available at the event.

Health Professions Day

Health Professions Day will be held on November 16th, 2011 at the Communicore Building.  At Health Professions Day, students will have the ability to hear from a variety of notable speakers that will discuss how students can differentiate themselves and prepare for their respective health-related profession. The event allows students with aspirations of entering the medical field to network and begin the process of attaining their goal of becoming a health professional.  In addition to the speakers, a resume workshop by the UF School of Medicine’s admissions directors will take place in order to make each student as competitive as possible in the medical school admissions process and health-related organizations will be tabling in order to promote volunteerism and getting involved on campus.

Gator Day

Gator Day will take place on the February 16th, 2012. A select group of individuals from the University will undergo a trip to Tallahassee to interact with Florida senators, representatives, lobbyists, as well as many other significant individuals within the state government. The purpose is to educate, inform, and promote awareness of issues facing the state of Florida and the University of Florida.

Gator Day’s events include observation of legislative sessions in both the Florida Senate and Florida House chambers, guest speakers addressing and debating their respective positions and experiences, and an evening banquet attended by Florida Blue Key members, UF trustees, state officials and distinguished contributors to the university. Gator Day is open to all UF students. Participant applications will be available in Spring 2012.
