Florida Blue Key Application


Dear Prospective Member,

Thank you for your interest in Florida Blue Key leadership honorary society.  Florida Blue Key is the University of Florida’s oldest and most distinguished leadership organization.  In addition to planning and producing Homecoming, Gator Growl, and the Speech and Debate Tournament, Florida Blue Key conducts many projects serving both the University of Florida and the Gainesville communities. A successful applicant must demonstrate exemplary leadership and service to the University of Florida. Diversity of involvement and experience are important criteria for acceptance into Florida Blue Key. Florida Blue Key selects leaders who have made a significant contribution to the overall development of student life at the University of Florida.

The following are requirements for all applicants:

  1. Be a current full-time student at the University of Florida, or if graduating, enrolled in the number of classes required to meet graduation requirements.
  2. Have completed sixty (60) hours of college credits (excluding current enrollment), twenty-four (24) of which must have been earned at the University of Florida.
  3. Have participated and demonstrated leadership in extracurricular activities at the University of Florida.
  4. Have at least a 2.75 grade point average.

A complete application contains the following:

  • Resume printed on legal paper with signed statement granting the Student Activities staff permission to certify GPA, hours completed, and current student conduct standing.
  • Completed application questions, no longer than two pages, 12pt, single-spaced.
  • $50 Application Fee

Resume and Application: Please use the sample resume in word document format provided below as guidance for your submitted resume. All the information located at the top of the sample resume should be included on your submitted resume. Additionally, please make sure to use a non-UFL email address on the resume you submit with your application.

Each year, Florida Blue Key receives questions as to what types of leadership and service are valued during the application process. Leadership positions within student organizations, community service, awards, and other accomplishments at or affecting the University of Florida are a few examples of items that should be included on a Florida Blue Key application, if applicable. If community service is included on a resume, the estimated number of participation hours should be included on the resume as well. Generally, extracurricular participation that is paid or given class credit is not considered during the application process. Exceptions may be made for outstanding circumstances such as research, conferences, internships, and activities that impact the University of Florida at a statewide or national level. All resume evaluations and interviews are conducted by active Florida Blue Key members and Florida Blue Key alumni. Please use the application questions and space on your resume to provide each panel with a better understanding of your accomplishments and achievements.

Application Fee: When you submit your application, please make sure to also pay the $50 application fee on our Square page https://squareup.com/store/FBKbanquet/. When checking out, please place your full name in the “Add additional note to merchant” area. If you are unable to pay via Square, please pay via a check by bringing it to the Florida Blue Key office on the third floor of the Reitz, Suite 3160. The $50 fee pays for the administrative cost of your application as well as the introductory, pre-tapping reception.

Pre-Tapping Reception: All applicants will be invited and encouraged to attend a pre-tapping reception with active members of Florida Blue Key. The reception is an opportunity for applicants to meet active members of the chapter. Attire for the event is business professional and it will be held on November 11th from 6pm-8pm at the Social at Midtown. The address is 1728 W University Ave, Gainesville, FL 32603.

Interview: When you submit your application, please sign up for an interview time in the Florida Blue Key office on the third floor of the Reitz, Suite 3160. Interviews will take place on November 7th-9th and 11th. If for whatever reason you cannot attend an interview on any of the days, you may sign up for a phone interview. If you choose to do so, please indicate this when you sign up for an interview. Choosing to participate in a phone interview instead of an in-person interview will not affect the scoring of any applicant.

Applications will be available on Friday, October 12th and are due on or before Friday, October 26th at 4:00PM to the Florida Blue Key office. The new member initiation and installation banquet will be on Saturday, December 8th.
